APRIL 13-19 IS NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK!

Visit your local library with your child - checking out books to read is a wonderful way to spend time together!

Many libraries in Maine offer free, weekly story-hours throughout the year and special activities in the summer.

Find a public library near you that offers a children's story hour.

While you are at your local library, check out our special raising readers books - every public library in Maine has been sent a copy of the special books we give to children at their five-year well child check-up! These books include a voucher for five-year-olds to take to their local library to get their first library card.

Raising Readers: Stories for Maine Children

raising readers has worked with many Maine public libraries to provide them with small stickers: “I was raised to be a reader,” which librarians can affix to the chiild's new library card. Library participation is completely voluntary and to date over 90 Maine Public Libraries are participating.
