Welcome!
Welcome to the raising readers monthly newsletter! Each month we send out information on raising readers happenings, fun literacy and book-related activities for children, and suggestions for reading and using books with children. Why is playing "Peek-A-Boo" important? Both playing Peek-A-Boo and reading a book that has flaps that lift are activities that help their baby brains to grow. Games teach children expressions, suspense, emotions, and the element of surprise. Lifting the flaps contributes to an early literacy skill called "print motivation". As children are exposed to books and are read to regularly, their brains are stimulated to develop, and they slowly acquire the early literacy skills that will help them be "ready to learn" when they get to kindergarten. Read more about "The Peek-A-Boo Principle: Building Baby's Brain". Lift the Flap BooksHere are some more great lift the flap books to locate at your local library or bookstore:
