The raising readers Book Nook raising readers is happy to announce the opening of the new "book nook" at the Children's Museum of Maine, located in Portland, Maine. The raising readers Book Nook is a quiet, cozy place at the Children's Museum of Maine where children and caregivers can share a good book. The nook has the look of a cabin, complete with a large rocking chair, imitation pot bellied stove, calico curtains and a braided rug. Multicultural art renderings by Maine artist, Roz Davis, decorate the walls and vibrant, primary colors on the cabin's interior trim give the space a warm welcoming appeal. Children's picture books in English, Spanish, Somali, Arabic, Vietnamese, Farsi, and Braille line the built in bookshelves. These dual language books allow adults who might be learning English, a chance to read a book to their child in their native language. Book titles in all languages are rotated often by museum staff to keep the selection fresh. Admission to the Children's Museum is free on the first Friday of every month after 4 pm. Visit http://www.kitetails.com for additional hours of operation. The raising readers Book Nook is sponsored by The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center ( http://www.mmc.org ) and MaineHealth http://www.mainehealth.org |
