Why raising readers Has Selected This Book
We try not to repeat books in the collection. We try to change the books each year so siblings do not end up with the same books. These small board books, though, have been a core part of our birth bag for years. Their bold pictures on white backgrounds, featuring numbers, letters, shapes, and colors, are so well designed that we chose to include them for another year. They are the perfect size for small hands and small enough to be tucked into a diaper bag or in a basket of favorite toys.
Questions
The more words a baby or toddler hears, the more her brain grows. These small board books can be used throughout the growing years to talk about the things in the pictures. Your newborn will not know her ABCs or 123s for years, but talking about letters and numbers can never start too early. For example, in the ABC book feel free to talk to your baby about other words that start with each letter.
Activities
Sing the ABC song when you are with your child. He will not be able to sing it back to you for a long time, but he will come to know the song in a way that will help him learn later. You can also count to ten when you are doing things like changing diapers. Count a baby's toes while gently touching them. Shapes and colors in the house can also be talked about throughout the day.
