Why raising readers Has Selected This Book
Each year we work with a publisher to find books that are created by talented writers and artists in our state. This year we worked with Candlewick Press in Boston, Massachusetts, and they designed this beautiful book for Maine families. We make this special book because this is the final book in the raising readers program. We hope it sends the message that raising readers, the book's authors, illustrators and publishers, and most importantly, your healthcare providers have enjoyed helping you raise a reader.
Questions
There is something special about knowing there are people in our state who spend their days creating stories and illustrating those stories just so that families will have wonderful books to read together. Let your child know that this book was created for him. There is a biography or description of each Maine author or illustrator. Read those biographies with your child. He might like to know how this book was created.
Activities
Look in the front cover of the book, where you will find a card that says that your child was "raised to be a reader" and is "ready for my first library card." Take that card to your library and sign your child up for her card. Together you can discover all the picture books that the library has to offer. Look for the authors and illustrators in this anthology to see what other delightful books they have created.
